Key Stage 4
RSL Level 2 Diploma in Creative and Performing Arts (Dance)

Specification: RSL Level 2

About:

This course studies dance in a practical and analytical way encouraging students to become more critical and creative in their approach to dance. The course is made up of three units; Context and Influences of a Key Choreographer, Ensemble Dance Performance and Live Performance. These units give students the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills. Across the course, students will learn how to perform with technical accuracy and how to choreograph work in response to an initial idea or stimulus in and across a range of styles.

We recommend that students take Dance lessons outside of school. This will support students to keep with the demands of practical work. We also run an extra-curricular dance program which students are highly encouraged to engage with. It is expected that students will perform in lessons to peers and at times to a public audience.

Assessment:

All units are internally assessed. Assessments happen through performances or well-structured workbooks which are designed to support the learner through their work. Performances are often created by the teacher in collaboration with the students to help to give students a sense of autonomy.
