About:

We explore Production Makeup throughout this course and identify the key aspects of Production and Performance within the Makeup pathway. Within the KS4 Production Makeup, we will develop the practical and professional skills of the makeup artist in all areas over a 2 year period.

Students will also be tasked with creating their own performance and ensuring that the design and preparation for production elements are fulfilled. Students will also explore their career progression and their professional capabilities.

Assessment:

Component 1 (Sept-July)

You must first research the 3 different performances and show you understanding of the designs created for each show. You will participate in research activities and discussions that explore a range of professional productions/repertoire in your selected discipline. You should store your findings in a research journal. The Performances studied are Cirque Du Soleil, Drag Queen Cabaret and The Lion King. The final assessment is a 10 minute filmed Presentation of your work.

Component 2: You will develop your skills and explore live theatre in the reproduction and recreation of theatrical make up.

Component 3: You will respond to a given brief and design your own make up that will share in a 10 minute presentation and develop this theme through a range of milestone activities.

About:

The Production Arts is at the centre of everything we do at ESA and in the Media, Film and Performance Industry. Whether it is a Performance Installation or a Film Shoot, the Production Arts is there. We explore Production Makeup throughout this course and identify the key requirements of Production Makeup. Within the KS5 Production Makeup, we will develop the practical and professional skills of the makeup artist in all areas over a 2 year period.

Students will also be tasked with designing for in-house performances, as well as industry relevant practical skills such as Special Effects Makeup, Full Body Makeup and Period Hairstyling. Throughout each production, students are consistently ensuring that the design and preparation requirements are fulfilled. Special Effects, Body Makeup and Hair Styling are highly skilled units, therefore they are completed in Year 13. This is to ensure the students are professionally and technically capable for more complex research and in depth practical skills development.

Industry Connections:

Throughout this course students will be invited to work on a number of projects at EUTC through the Projects team. Students that demonstrate a real passion for this industry will be able to further develop their skills and knowledge with the Projects team. There are also opportunities for Work Experience for our high achieving students.

Year 1/Year 12 Units:

Unit 93 - Makeup Application Skills and Creative Uses in Performance

You will recognise the factors that affect the application of makeup on a performer, you’ll identify the make-up requirements and create design ideas for a performance, and you’ll create make-up designs on performers and review your practice.

Unit 2 - Production Arts Workshop

You will know the role of the production team, develop ideas creatively, present production ideas in a workshop setting and understand the potential of the production process.

Unit 97 - Period Makeup

You will know how to research period makeup, how to communicate makeup design ideas, how to use the techniques and skills required to create period makeup, and to interpret makeup designs and apply to models. You will begin during the end of Year 1/Year 12 in preparation for Year 2/Year 13: Unit 92 - Makeup for Performers - You will identify different types and techniques of makeup, learn how to prepare the skin for makeup using suitable products, learn to interpret makeup designs and character analysis in the application of make-up and to ensure that makeup is applied with attention to safe and effective skincare.

Unit 100 - Hair Styling and Dressing for Performers

You’ll learn the factors that affect hairstyle design, learn hairstyle requirements for a performance, learn to create design ideas for hairstyles and learn to style hair for performers.

Unit 95 - Special Effects Makeup

You will learn to identify the special effects makeup requirements of a production, you’ll experiment with different special effects techniques and products, learn to produce designs and plans for special effects makeup, and learn to complete special effects makeup on performers.

Unit 94 Full Body Makeup

You’ll learn how to research and identify full body makeup requirements, how to create design ideas for full body makeup and produce and modify complete makeups on performers/models.
