Spotlight on EUTC [Spring 2017 - Issue 01]

So far this term our students have been hard at work - getting their heads stuck into Intervention and Revision sessions; rigging lights, building sets and rehearsing furiously for the upcoming show; and training to become mentors for the Elstree Film Festival (run in partnership with Elstree Studios). With respect to Holocaust Memorial Day (having taken place last Saturday 27th January 2017) this week's theme at EUTC is 'Holocaust'.

Quote of the week:

“Monsters exist, but they are too few in number to be truly dangerous. More dangerous are the common men, the functionaries ready to believe and to act without asking questions”. Primo Levi

Flicks: A Musical Showcase [BTEC Show]

Flicks is taking place on the 1st and 2nd of February 2017. Performing Arts students perform a variety of songs from the film soundtrack catalogue while Production Arts students stage manage, light, rig and mic the entire evening.

Tickets are £4 for Students and Prospective Students. £6 for adults. Doors open at 7:00PM
See you there!

FOLLOW THIS: This Saturday - Directors' Guild of America Awards

The Directors Guild of America on Thursday revealed the nominees for its 69th annual DGA Awards in the feature film categories, with La La Land's Damien Chazelle, Lion's Garth Davis, Moonlight's Barry Jenkins, Manchester by the Sea's Kenneth Lonergan and Arrival's Denise Villeneuve nominated for the group's best feature film directing award. All five are first-time DGA Award nominees.
In the category of first-time feature directors, a new award the Guild introduced last year to celebrate up-and-coming helmers, Nate Parker was nominated for The Birth of a Nation. It is the first major awards recognition for the film, which many had predicted would be an awards-season front-runner when it first debuted at last year's Sundance Film Festival, but which subsequently fell off the radar after the controversy surrounding Parker himself.
The other nominees in the category include Lion's Davis (his second DGA mention this year); Tim Miller for his anti-superhero movie Deadpool; Dan Trachtenberg for the thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane; and The Edge of Seventeen's Kelly Fremon Craig, the lone woman nominated in either of the two categories this year.
